Dec 13, 2020 · marguerite vitielloI'll be back! Easy to find, just didnt like the line of people . I also noticed that ome door said 6011 . I was waiting at the wrong door, maybe the back. I did find my place on line which moved quickly. The staff and doctor were knowledgable, easy to work with andunderstanding. I walked out for once not having to google any symptoms .. The system of taking multiple eye tests and sitting after each one got annoying but if that's the system, thata fine. I'll be back in 6 months and I look forward to building a lasting patient relationship with my son and dr.khouri
Nov 30, 2022 · Tiziana DuzckekFour months ago, My life dramatically took a turn for the worst. My mom was diagnosed with glaucoma. Glaucoma is a pressure in the eyeball causing loss of sight. It all started when my mom went to check her eyesight & they told her the pressure in her eyeball was 40 when usually our eye pressure ranges from 12-22. The eye associate told us that my mom needed to be seen at the ER in PA that specializes in the eye bc she was close to loosing her eyesight. The doctors in PA told us that her case was very rare. He then began explaining that when a person has glaucoma its due to a hard hit in the eye, discomfort in the eye etc. My mom never felt those symptoms so we never knew she was loosing her eyesight. They gave her meds to keep the pressure at a stable level until she was seen by another specialist. We followed up with the doctor in PA. She explained that my mom needed surgery to stop the pressure from rising. However, the surgery wouldn’t bring her lost vision back. I found myself stuck in a bubble. I was numb. My mom is loosing her vision and there is no way I can help her gain it back. I didn’t want her to see me vulnerable bc she was relying on me to be strong. Her worst fear wasn’t taking care of me bc I don’t rely on her anymore, but I have a 6 yr old sister that does need her. So I began to call and set up her surgery. The financial counselor asked, if we had insurance. I told her no that we were going to set up payment arrangements. She then said, surgery was more than $20,000. I asked her well can my mom apply for charity care & she then said, it’s only for PA residents. I hung up and cried bc I didn’t know what to do & who to ask help. I called back and asked, if there was another solution. She said, there’s an eye specialists in Newark that can help her with surgery costs if she applies for charity care. So I gave it a try and I made an appointment in Newark. The eye specialists in Newark said, the same thing. My mom needed surgery ASAP, but she needed to apply for charity care. We applied and we were approved. I called back to make an appointment & the next available spot was January 2019. I told my mom and I can almost see it in her eyes that she wanted to break down. After waiting 2 months for an appointment in Newark. Then another month to wait for the approval letter. My mom said, the meds were making her sick. She didn’t eat anymore. She slept most of the time. I would do anything to take her place. I got up one day & made another appointment just to see if the doctor was willing to make an exemption. Today, we went for our appointment. I told the doctor if there was an alternative bc the meds were making her sick. He said, last time we talked your mom didn’t have insurance, but I see that she’s been approved for charity care. I told him yes. I asked, if there was anything he can do to move up surgery sooner. He didn’t hesitate to say yes. He left and came back & said, “Your surgery is set up for next month before the holidays.” “I won’t make you wait any longer.” It’s like a whole weight has been lifted off my shoulders. THANK YOU DR. KHOURI!!! You’re truly appreciated!!!!
