Guterman, Carl B MD: Pediatric Eye Associates of Northern NJ

My daughter has been a patient of Dr Guterman for going on 15 + years, his diagnosis of her eye issues were spot on and he performed her surgeries to correct the issue which had only every been seen in a Text book. He is the best pediatric eye Dr I ever met and is awesome with every child he sees. His staff are great and very professional. The office and treatment rooms are clean and supplied with every instrument at his disposal. You will not find anyone better.

I had a really frustrating experience at this office. My two-year-old daughter and I had an appointment, but we were made to wait over two hours to be seen. The receptionist even skipped over us and asked me to step aside so she could help the next person—whose appointment was after mine—only for them to be seen before us with two patients. When we finally saw the doctor, the exam for my daughter took less than five minutes. On top of that, they require you to keep a credit card on file and charged me $175 without even giving me the chance to go through my insurance. All that waiting, just to be rushed through the appointment. This office is completely disorganized, and the experience was a waste of time and money. I definitely wouldn’t recommend it. Got it. Thank you for sharing with the world my insurance information. I’m sure that violates some type of law. And my frustration is on the disorganization, and the over charge on my credit card . I understand short staff, I understand trying to the best with what you have . But you have not .

I took my 5 year old son for his first eye exam as he failed the school nurse screening. Dr. Guterman was incredibly patient and oh so kind to my son. He was very thorough and explained his findings to me in a clear way. We were so fortunate to get an appointment sooner than expected as a cancellation had occurred and we were able to book the time. I’m looking forward to being in his office as my son will continue to be his patient as the years go on.

Today was our first ever appointment with Dr. Guterman. I couldn’t help it, I had to message my family while the exam was going on. Dr. Guterman was so patient and gentle. The way he talked to my son, the way he encouraged him each time he said “try again”, or “don’t rush”, just warmed my heart. He spoke in a low tone, almost like a whisper. But he was still audible. I guess we could say he’s learned that from working with kids for many years, but I dare say it’s just in his nature. I want him to be my doctor for every single thing. God bless him.

I recently had a frustrating experience with the front desk staff. The day before my son's appoinment, I reach out for help with signing in online. Unfortunately, the staff member I spoke with was unable to provide me with the correct webpage for the sign-in process. Instead of addressing my request directly, The older lady transferred me to a Spanish-speaking representative without conforming whether I needed that assistance. This felt presumptive and unnecessary, as I am comfortable with English. To make matters worse, Shortly after the transfer, I receive na call that they cancel my appoiment that I had two month waiting on. I found this particularly disappointing, as I believe there should be ab more efficient way to communicate these details. Ii would be much more helpful if the office could send a text or email with the correct website/links or instructions, rather than relaying solely on phone calls. Overall, I fell that better communication and support could significantly improve the patient experience at this office what a waist of time.
