I visited Manhattan Eyeworks for an annual check-up for a contact lens and glasses prescription. The evaluation lasted ~5-10 minutes total for both evaluations and I was billed for a premium contact lens fitting rate under the condition that I was told to replace the lenses I walked in with (was not allowed by doctor to reuse the ones I entered with). This was what they called a “trial lens” despite being simply replacement of exact same model and prescription, after doctor directly told me to. Shady and the loophole to charging me extra… I then called insurance to clarify the details of what consists of a “premium” contact lens fitting and it deviates from what Manhattan Eyeworks considers a “premium” fitting - hence, I was overcharged. In calling to dispute this charge (multiple times over multiple days), secretary frequently cut me off under the premise of “being the only one working and having other customers go attend to” - the same line every time, a direct dismissal. Extremely unprofessional, a hassle to deal with with no conclusion or refund issued given for false charges, on top of an inadequate eye examination. Received my prescriptions but overcharged, with hasty evaluation. Avoid this place at all costs, I can swallow the cost but others should not go through this

I recently visited Manhattan Eye Works and had a fantastic experience. The staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive, ensuring that I felt comfortable throughout my visit. I have had trouble finding an eyewear store that accepted my insurance and thankfully I had no struggle here. They took the time to answer all my questions and helped me find the perfect eyewear. The atmosphere was amazing with a broad selection of frames and cool wall artwork. Overall, I highly recommend Manhattan Eye Works for anyone in need of eye care, contact lenses or contact lenses.

Highly recommend!! I have been a patient for many years, and I have had a good experience every time I’ve went for an appointment. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. I moved to New Jersey, and still make the effort to come to Manhattan Eye Works for the care they give their patients!

The exam felt a bit rushed and they use very old equipment. I got an exam for contacts and ordered them through Manhattan eyeworks. The contacts shipped from Florida, according to the shipping label, and the boxes inside came very disheveled (papers crumpled, boxes ripped and crushed a bit). One box of contacts was even open. It makes me feel like not much care is put into it.

If all you need is a glasses prescription and can leave the office with that prescription *in your hand*, I can recommend Manhattan Eyeworks (MEW). I don’t have a problem with the doctor or his prescription. If you need anything else, run away. My problem began when the lenses of glasses I purchase at MEW started peeling very prematurely. They really shouldn’t peel at all if treated correctly. I went back to MEW for new lenses simply because they take my insurance. But the new glasses I purchased from them looked like they were bifocals which I had told the doctor I cannot wear due to vertigo. I’ve only ever had a problem with lenses one other time in 40 years of wearing glasses. MEW did try replacing the lenses, but it was the same problem. They also tried using a marker on the lenses while my glasses were off my face to know where to center the lenses…not a very precise approach. And lastly, they were convinced the glasses just needed to be readjusted. I commend the efforts, but they always were sure to tell me it MUST be me, not the lenses. Finally I just gave up. Over the course of this adventure, I had asked for my prescription at least 7 times. When they finally sent it, it clearly had a prescription for bifocals (please see picture included in this review). I emailed MEW and said “the good news is I’m not crazy. The bad news is this is clearly a prescription for bifocals.” I again was told that I was wrong and “At a certain age, we all have addition prescriptions but most people don’t fill both.” The older African-American gentleman who works there really did try his hardest. Marina however, I was felt like she was ready to throw down. I felt like I needed to calm her down despite the fact that something bad was happening to me, not to her. I went to another office and had a fantastic experience. I have glasses I can see out of perfectly now—on the first try.
