Pediatric Eye Care of Staten Island

Had my son’s appointment booked well over 6 months in advance. Got here earlier as requested and proceeded to wait over 3 hours to see the doctor. I understand that the doctor needs to time but 3 hours is completely unacceptable. There were even other people who got there after were seen before he was!

I truthfully cant believe all the bad reviews. Dr Derespenis is the most amazing eye doctor. He did my eye surgery as a little girl and saved me so much heartache and gave me so much confidence back. When it was time to take my daughter for her first eye doctor visit, I felt so at ease knowing he was still in practice. He is a master of his craft- and arguably the best eye doctor on the island/in New York.. so OF COURSE the wait time for appointments can be long. Sure, you may wait a while in the waiting room as well.. but that's because he spends so much time with every patient and has mastered his attention to detail. Love him and the office so much!

New patient; Called multiple times two straight days and no answer. Finally got a hold of someone on 10/14/24 for my 5 year old to see the doctor. I was told the next available appt is in Feb. 2025. Imagine calling the doctor for an issue and being told you can’t see them for 3 months.

I had a very disappointing experience with the supervisor at this pediatric eye doctor's office. She was extremely unprofessional and rude, showing no willingness to help or work with me, or anyone else for that matter. Her attitude was dismissive and uncooperative, which made the entire experience unpleasant. Additionally, she seemed more concerned about asking us to fill out surveys for her than actually addressing our needs and concerns. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and makes the necessary changes to improve the patient experience.

My daughter’s doctor left the practice in September, but the office did not bother telling us until two weeks before her appointment on February 22nd. This is not a reasonable time to notify a patient that the doctor caring for them has left. Most states, by law, require notification within 30 days. To top it off, they can’t accommodate my daughter with another doctor. They said to call back at the end of March and maybe they will have something by then. We waited six months for this appointment. They had five months to notify us, and now they cannot care for my daughter within a reasonable amount of time. This is called patient abandonment and I will be filing a complaint with the NY medical board.
