I visited this place several times over the past three years and unfortunately had a negative experience. I have DC37 insurance and discovered that they charged my insurance for the full service, including glasses and lenses, while also charging me $150 in cash for my lenses on the side. After a year and a half, my lenses began to peel and developed spots. When I returned, they claimed it was just wear and tear, which was surprising since I’ve worn glasses since the first grade and have never encountered this issue. Additionally, they charged me $400 for my 10-year-old daughter’s glasses—$250 for frames that weren't covered because the available options were too large, and $150 for her lenses. When one of the handles on her frames cracked, they insisted that I needed to purchase an entirely new pair. Recently, my family and I had our appointments at Optic Design on Rockaway Parkway in Canarsie. Using the same insurance, I found that I was fully covered for both my daughter's and my glasses, with no extra charges, and our glasses were ready in just two days. I will not be returning to Eye & Dental Care. While the staff initially seemed genuine and trustworthy, this experience has led me to choose Optic Design instead, where the optometrist and staff were welcoming and efficient, without any hidden charges.
My Optician, located at 9516 Church Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11212, provides eyewear and eye care services within the "Eye Doctor Near Me" category. However, customer reviews indicate significant concerns regarding billing practices and customer service.
One customer reported being charged both by their insurance and out-of-pocket for the same service, specifically for lenses. They also experienced issues with the quality of their lenses, which peeled and developed spots after a short period. Additionally, they found the pricing for their child's glasses to be excessive and were dissatisfied with the store's response to a broken frame.
The customer also mentioned feeling uncomfortable with the staff's communication during dental procedures, suggesting a lack of transparency and professionalism.
The review strongly suggests that the patient felt like they were overcharged, and that the quality of the products was not up to par. Additionally, the handling of insurance claims was questioned. The customer also contrasted their experience with another local eye doctor, who they felt provided a better service.

Mar 20, 2025 · Nichole MichelShort term is okay. But for long term dental needs I'd advise all to find dentist that are friendlier and willing to speak English around you at least during your active procedures. Especially when you can tell they are talking about YOU!
Nov 27, 2024 · Marvin 1So far, the best ophthalmologist I have been to since I moved to NY 6 years ago. The appointment was thorough and professional. The optician and the staff had a great attitude and were very attentive. Covid measure appeared to be taken with care. And their weekend hours are convenient! Definitely coming back to ' My Optician ' for my next checkup!
May 15, 2022 · Allison FulghumOn my last visit to my Optician NY on Saturday, I was very happy to see that I could get a complete eye exam without an appointment if I was willing to wait little while, which I was. The optometrist uses state of the art vision care equipment and made me realize how bad I needed my reading eyeglasses upgraded. The nice salesperson helped me find brand name eyeglasses that were perfect for my lifestyle and me. I would definitely recommend this optical store to anyone who needs an eye exam or wants a huge selection of designer sunglasses and eyeglasses to choose from.
Mar 19, 2018 · Pete JonsonIt was a wonderful experience. You can definitely rely on their advice if you are not sure what frames to get. I had no problems with the glasses. The team is very knowledgeable and qualified. Recommended to anyone in Brooklyn looking for brand name eye glasses!
