I'm not sure why this place has low reviews, not only do they have the cutest window displays; but they're above and beyond in caring for their customers! My grandma needed new eyeglasses and her mobility is very limited; Allan and Stephanie understood our situation and made a house call to assist her. We are extremely grateful and recommend Staten Eye Land to anyone in need of new prescription lenses!
For our local users in Taiwan seeking information about optical stores and eyewear, we want to introduce you to Staten Eye Land, located at 20 Nelson Ave, Staten Island, NY 10308, USA. While this store is geographically distant, the contrasting feedback from customers offers valuable insights into factors to consider when choosing your local "Eye Doctor Near Me" that also provides eyewear.
According to some online reviews, Staten Eye Land is praised for its customer care. One reviewer mentioned their "cute window displays" and described the service as "above and beyond in caring for their customers!" Another reviewer shared a particularly positive experience where Allan and Stephanie from Staten Eye Land made a house call to assist their grandmother with limited mobility in getting new eyeglasses, expressing extreme gratitude and recommending the store for those needing new prescription lenses.
However, another long-term customer, who had been a loyal patron for over 30 years, reported a severely negative experience during a recent visit. This customer found the prices to be exorbitant, citing $495 for a pair of non-designer frames and $2,267 for new lenses for another pair of glasses. They also raised significant concerns about a lack of transparency regarding their prescription changes and a detailed cost breakdown, despite asking multiple times. The customer felt their questions were ignored and was only told their prescription was "very bad" without being provided specific details. Furthermore, they experienced considerable difficulty trying to cancel the order (placed but not yet picked up) within a reasonable timeframe, with allegations of the owner being dishonest about the merchandise being picked up when attempting to dispute the charges with their credit card company. This detailed account portrays a situation of very high costs, poor communication, and highly unsatisfactory customer service, leading this long-term customer to strongly advise others to avoid Staten Eye Land.
Staten Eye Land is an optical store that sells eyeglasses and provides eye examinations. The environment, based on one positive comment, may have appealing visual displays. A significant positive feature highlighted is their willingness to provide exceptional service, including making house calls for customers with limited mobility. However, a major concern raised by another customer is the very high pricing of their eyewear and a lack of transparency in pricing and prescription information. There are also serious allegations of poor customer service and dishonest business practices related to order cancellations and billing. No promotional information was available; instead, the reviews present starkly contrasting experiences.
When searching for an "Eye Doctor Near Me" in Taiwan that also sells eyewear, it is advisable to consider feedback regarding not only the quality of service and products but also the transparency of pricing, the clarity of communication about prescriptions and costs, and the fairness of customer service policies, especially regarding returns or cancellations. The contrasting reviews for Staten Eye Land highlight the importance of these factors in ensuring a positive experience when purchasing glasses. While some customers have experienced exceptional care, others have reported significant issues with cost, transparency, and customer service.
Staten Eye Land can be contacted at phone number (718) 948-5060 or mobile phone +1 718-948-5060 for individuals who may be in the Staten Island, NY area and are interested in their services, but it is strongly recommended to consider the significant negative feedback alongside the positive when making a decision.

Jan 29, 2025 · Charles SanchezIf you're in need of eye glasses, do yourself a HUGE favor and AVOID Staten Eye Land. I have been a loyal customer since I got my 1st pair of glasses in 5th grade in 1988, & even when they closed their North Shore location, I schlepped to the South Shore to support a local business. Well, this past summer was my last visit. I went to store to get pair of frames fixed. They couldn't fix them, so I needed new ones, & of course, I was due for eye exam, too. Well, one pair of no-name glasses that I didn't even really love cost $495. Yes, $495 just for frames!!! I needed new lenses for my other glasses, & the pieces of glass cost $2,267. I was not asked if I wanted to update my prescription on my other glasses. They just scribbled numbers on a piece of paper and gave me the total amount. I was not told how much my prescription changed, despite my asking three times, nor was I given a verbal or written breakdown of the cost. When I asked how one of the lenses came to $888, I was only told that my prescription is "very bad." (I know my contact lens prescription is -3.) Meanwhile, I have not experienced any issues seeing with the glasses I currently wear. I asked again about the change in my prescription, and I was told it will feel "like a light bulb went off." Why not tell the customer their own prescription??? $2,267 is a lot to pay for lenses, and it bothered me that I was not given basic information, like the change in my vision, nor was I given a detailed receipt. How is that good customer service?!? I realized I could not afford this purchase, nor did I appreciate how my questions were ignored, so I reached out via email on day 10 to cancel my order, stating that I would return when I could afford the $2,762. I received no response. I therefore texted the next day & was told it was more than 10 days, so I couldn't cancel my order because they, the merchant, would not get refunded. I have not picked up any products yet, but they will not work w.me as long-time customer to cancel the order!?!? All prescription glasses are custom lenses, and the merchant not getting refunded by the vendor should not prevent the merchant from working with a loyal customer. A few days later, I received a voice mail & was told that 2 lenses are ready, but they are still waiting on the 3rd pair of lenses. I couldn’t cancel my order a few days ago, but they haven’t received everything from their vendor yet? To date, I have not picked up any frames or lenses. I have tried to cancel the payments with my credit cards, and the owner LIED & said I picked up the $495 pair of frames. Signing a receipt when the order was placed is NOT proof that the customer returned to pick up the merchandise. If this is how you treat long-time customers, I wonder how you treat others. Mind you, the owner gave me a bunch of flyers and asked me to display them at my job, so I guess business must not be good. No wonder you have been reduced to deceitful tactics to steal your customer's money when they have not received anything. It is disgraceful that after 36 years, this is how you treat a customer who has always supported your business.
Dec 06, 2024 · Monica MikolajczykShame on my wife for not looking at your reviews before coming to your office. Your rating explains everything. My wife was there this Saturday. She came with her insurance that covered her eye exam and a voucher that covers the glasses and frames. This place is ridiculously overpriced with its frames. So we want to take our voucher and go somewhere else. I called them 10 times, left about 3 messages, and got zero callbacks. They pick up and hang up on you. Do yourself a favor and save yourself a headache. There’s a reason this establishment has terrible reviews. Go elsewhere.
Jan 31, 2023 · Marlin LyudinFantastic service. I got an eye exam here to renew my license. Smooth and simple. I also bought a new pair of glasses. Alan spent a lot of time with me and helped me pick "The" perfect frame for my tall but thin head. Super satisfied! This place knows what they are doing on all fronts involving eye wear/care :)
Nov 30, 2017 · Mirsad RedzovicThe level of service cannot be matched anywhere! I was in town from Chicago. My son lost his glasses and had to travel to Europe. I called 10 different stores, and they all said that they mail prescriptions out and could not turn around an order in a day. Alan said that it would depend on my son's prescription. He called the store in Chicago where we bought his glasses. They faxed the prescription, and he had the lenses in stock. We went over, and we had our glasses in under 30 minutes. While there, people came into the store, and it was they they were family. Hugs..kisses...clear loyalty. He has been there for over forty years..obviously he is doing something right! (Great selection too, btw. All the brand names you would want!)
